After your hip replacement. You are allowed to start walking on your hip usually the following morning when you have recovered from your anaesthetic, and the physiotherapist is able to safely assist you with getting up the first time.
While in bed for the first 6 weeks, there are exercises that you should, and certain movements you must avoid to prevent a dislocation.
You should move your feet and toes up and down.
You may turn your toes and feet forward or outwards, but do not turn them inwards towards each other.
You can keep your knees straight, or move them apart, but do not cross them
Do not try to lift your knee up high when you are sitting up and do not bend your hip past 80 degrees.
Do not try to touch your toes or the outer side of your foot.
